It’s officially spooky season and we’re getting ready to celebrate! With so much candy around Halloween, I love to make this savory dip that’s packed with protein & and good fats. Not only is this Halloween 7 layer taco dip easy, but it’s made with whole foods, not Frankenstein foods. You can make your own salsa and gaucamole. Ready made is just as good too. Just take a look at the contents for quality ingredients. This Halloween 7 layer taco dip is a perfect “make ahead” food too! Just assemble it and pop it in the fridge till it’s party time!
Ingredients
1 can 16 oz refried beans
1 1/2 cups chunky salsa or pico de gallo
1 1/2 cup sour cream (also 1/2 cup for web piping)
taco seasoning 1 oz or add spices separately (see below on what spices I use)
1 cup guacamole
1 1/2 cups shredded cheddar cheese
One bunch of cilantro chopped, about 1 cup
Optional, black olives & chopped tomato for garnish
You can add ready made taco seasoning, but I personally like to make my own seasoning mix. Why? I know exactly what’s in it and I can adjust it to my taste. And I always have these spices in my cabinet so it’s one less thing to buy. See below for my taco seasoning mix.
DIY taco seasoning for sour cream layer
1/2 tsp Salt
1/8 Black pepper
1/2 tsp Garlic powder
1 tsp Cumin
1 tsp chili powder
1/2 tsp Paprika
1/4 tsp dried Oregano
1/8 tsp Red pepper
*adjust seasoning to your taste
I have used different dishes for this dip. A 9x13 dish or around this measurement will work great.
Directions
Place salsa or pico gallo in a strainer with a bowl underneath. While you’re getting the others ingredients together, let salsa strain. Stir occasionally. Save this juice and the strained salsa and set aside.
Mix the juice of the salsa with the refried beans. Spread the refried beans evenly at the bottom of your dish.
Mix the seasoning & sour cream together. Spread evenly over the refried beans.
Spread guacamole evenly over the sour cream.
Spread strained salsa evenly over the guacamole.
Top with the shredded cheese
Fill a sandwich bag with about 1/2 cup sour cream. Cut a small hole at a corner, about 1/4 inch. Pipe the spider web over the cheese.
Add cilantro around the edge of the dish.
Add a spider of use black olives if you’d like.
Enjoy with tortilla chips, crackers or cut up vegetables.
This dip can easily be made for any party, not just Halloween. Every time I make this dip it goes fast with zero leftovers. I hope you enjoy this spooky season with your ghosts and goblins.
